Our latest investment: PheroSyn
We are delighted to announce our 49th investment in a female-founded start-up: PheroSyn.
Led by Dr. Mary Ellis (Co-Founder, CEO) and Daniel Bahia (Co-founder, Director of Operations), PheroSyn are an innovative agricultural technology company using green chemistry techniques to produce identical copies of nature’s own pheromones, providing an alternative to damaging pesticides. The company was spun out from the UK’s Rothamsted, one of the oldest agricultural research institutions in the world.
Angel Academe is investing alongside Sustainable Ventures, and has been able to help in securing additional funding through our partnership with Innovate UK as part of their Investor Partnerships Future Economy programme.
The Angel Academe deal team was led by two long-time members, IP expert Helen Jones and John Souter, a technologist and NED.
Helen says: “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to invest in this spin-out from globally renowned Rothamsted Research Institute planning to reduce usage of pesticides by smart application of pheromones.”
John says: “We thought that Mary was a very experienced and hugely impressive founder, and recognised really great prospects for the business, based on how they are viewed by the community to which they’ll be selling.”
